The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities is pleased to announce that it has awarded a $3,563 grant to the Marysville Public Library. These funds will support the library’s commitment of better serving individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and caregivers.
The grant funds will be used to create a free lending library of adaptable toys and special needs materials. Items such as deep pressure weighted vests and a sensory balance beam will be available to be checked out from the library and used at home. In addition to the toy library, the grant will assist with supporting a sensory playgroup hosted at the library geared toward young children with special needs and their families.
The library also plans to make their space more approachable through quarterly browsing hours open only to individuals with special needs and their families.
"We are excited that this generous grant will allow us to become a more welcoming and inclusive place with more effective services. This speaks to the core mission of the library: to provide free access to all kinds of materials that will positively impact everyone in the community,” commented Marysville Public Library’s Youth Services Reference Assistant, Alice Mackey. "We hope that this project will be the first step of many to improve connections with children with disabilities, their families, and the agencies that serve them."
The project aligns with UCBDD’s focus to creatively address the needs of individuals and support community activities and participation.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the library to offer an integrated community opportunity for children and families here in Union County,” added UCBDD Superintendent, Kara Brown.
UCBDD awards grants through an application and review process. Information regarding the requirements to apply can be requested by emailing the Community Relations Coordinator, Mandi Mayse at firstname.lastname@example.org.
